National AI Literacy, El Salvador

In partnership with El Salvador's Ministry of Education, this initiative brought AI literacy training to educators across the country as part of a national push to prepare teachers and students for a world shaped by artificial intelligence.

Over two years of implementation, 2,257 educators were trained in AI literacy and the responsible use of AI in the classroom. The work spanned in-person workshops, train-the-trainer programs, and a deployment model designed for the realities of low-resource environments: intermittent connectivity, shared devices, and wide variation in prior technology experience.

One of the most effective innovations was the creation of AI Learning Communities over WhatsApp, the platform teachers already used daily. More than 15 communities kept the training alive after workshops ended, letting educators in low-connectivity regions share lesson ideas, troubleshoot together, and support each other as they brought AI into their classrooms.

The lessons from this work were presented at the Harvard Global Education Conference and published as a chapter in Learning Education Policy Analysis to Make The World Better, contributing a rare, practice-grounded account of what national-scale AI literacy actually takes in the Global South.
